JOSEPH HARRISON SADDORTS

Joseph Harrison Saddoris Sr., son of Pearl Clay Saddoris and Elizabeth May Saddoris was born November 25, 1908, in Lacelle, Iowa.

Joe attended country school in the Lacelle Community in Clarke County, Iowa. He married Evelyn Louise Moran on January 2, 1929, in Corning, Iowa. Six children blessed this union: Harold, Frances, Joseph Jr., Donald, Ronald and Patricia.

"Joe," as he was called by everyone, farmed in Clarke County until 1934, when he began working for Iowa State Highway Commission in Osceola.

Joseph enlisted April 13, 1944, at Des Moines, Iowa into the U. S. Navy. He served in the Seabee's in Guam during World War II. He had over 25 years of naval service, including the Naval Reserves, when he retired in 1970.

He was discharged from the United States Navy with an Honorable Discharge on December 22, 1945 at the age of 37.

In 1951, Joe and his family moved to Oskaloosa where he worked as Street Commissioner for the city. He worked for the city until 1973, when he began working for Garden and Associates Engineering, until he retired in 1980.

Joe moved back to Osceola after Evelyn's death in 1998. Joseph Harrison Saddoris passed away March 12, 2004.
